The Stellenbosch University Cricket Club, or Maties, has its roots in Stellenbosch as far back as 1866. The Club joined the Boland Cricket League in 1992 and currently has 5 teams in the league, including 1 women’s team. The Club has launched several initiatives to establish itself as a major force in the Western Cape and South African cricket and has produced several great national cricket players since its establishment. The
Club is privileged to be actively supported by its main sponsor, Steinhoff International, a leading company nationally and internationally, as well as many loyal donors, which include former Matie players and parents.
The Club is totally committed to trust, loyalty and open communication and has an experienced and active management team under the leadership of the Club’s Chairman, Sidney van Heerden.
The Club fully supports the University’s Strategic Vision and the initiatives within the HOPE Project. The Club is also an active participant in the Maties Sport High Performance programme.
